FORGING KNIVES:  Making a Knife Worth Having

 How to forge a one of a kind knife . . . 

 

1.)  Select a simple clean high carbon steel or an alloy like 5160 or 52100

2.)  Place metal in forge to bring to forging temperature (1500 F to 1800 F ideally )  Anything hotter and you are welding!

3.)  Get it under the power hammer and shape it how you like it

4.)  Anneal it! This is softening the metal enough so we can grind it.

5.)  Remove the scales and grind it to shape

6.)  Proper normalizing and heat treating to harden and temper the knife

7.)  Finish the blade to get that smooth clean look

8.)  Assemble the guard and handle to your liking

9.)  Create the sheath before bringing the knife to razor sharp edge

10.)  Sharpen to scary sharp
